Australia
"Australia (pronounced /əsˈtreɪljə, ɒs-/, or formally /ɔːˈstreɪliə/), officially the Commonwealth of Australia, is a country in the southern hemisphere comprising of the mainland which is the world's smallest continent (also largest island)[8], the major island of Tasmania, and numerous other islands in the Indian and Pacific Oceans.N4 Neighbouring countries include Indonesia, East Timor, and Papua New Guinea to the north, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and New Caledonia to the north-east, and New Zealand to the south-east.
For around 40,000 years before European settlement commenced in the late 18th century, the Australian mainland and Tasmania were inhabited by around 250 individual nations of indigenous Australians. After sporadic visits by fishermen from the immediate north, and European discovery by Dutch explorers in 1606, the eastern half of Australia was claimed by the British in 1770 and initially settled through penal transportation to the colony of New South Wales, founded on 26 January 1788. The population grew steadily in the following years; the continent was explored, and during the 19th century another five largely self-governing Crown Colonies were established.
On 1 January 1901, the six colonies became a federation, and the Commonwealth of Australia was formed. Since Federation, Australia has maintained a stable liberal democratic political system and remains a Commonwealth realm. The population is just over 21.7 million, with approximately 60% concentrated in and around the mainland state capitals of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, and Darwin. The nation's capital city is Canberra, located in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).
Technologically advanced and industrialised, Australia is a prosperous multicultural country and has excellent results in many international comparisons of national performance such as health care, life expectancy, quality-of-life, human development, public education, economic freedom, and the protection of civil liberties and political rights. Australian cities also routinely rank among the world's highest in terms of livability, cultural offerings, and quality of life. It is a member of the United Nations, G-20 major economies, Commonwealth of Nations, ANZUS, OECD, and the WTO." Article resource: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia

has it that you score much better if you have Gumby sitting next to you while
you play.
Gumby is also fun to sleep with. If you
roll over on him it isn?t painful. Best of all is the simple and very well known
fact that Gumby is a monster repellent.
All monsters have an inherent fear of Gumby. Most monsters will not stay in any
house that Gumby calls home. Even the most difficult to handle monsters will
flee from under the bed and the closets of the room were Gumby sleeps. So Gumby

Gumby is also environmentally friendly. His green color will help your children
remember that going green is good. Gumby was green before being green was cool.
In fact, Gumby can even serve as your family spokesperson for environmental
causes!
Gumby can even go to school with a kid. Your child can take Gumby along and gain
courage for dealing with less than nice people as well as a leg up in math
class. Gumby is great at math and will help your child learn faster than
everyone else. At least that’s the rumor. It’s also important to note that no
school has ever banned Gumby. Your child may not be able to have chocolate
cookies for lunch but he can certainly take Gumby along to share his apple!

The Economy Of South Australia
The economy of South Australia is extremely diverse, though it is largely broken
down into three main areas of mineral resources, ship handling and porting, and
tourism. These economies are largely concentrated in the larger cities of South
Australia, specifically Sydney. However, Sydney is not the sole driver of the
South Australian economy, and the nature of mining and tourism means that the
economy is dependent on a wide area and a network of railroads and highways.
The most famous section of South Australia's economy is it's tourism. In
addition to attractions like the Sydney Opera House, South Australia is home to
the Great Barrier Reef, which is the world's largest coral reef and home to
thousands of species of animals found nowhere else in the world. Much of the
nature tourism in South Australia revolves around the native species of
Australia, which include such unique species as koalas, kangaroos and wallabies.
As such, the federal government has gone to great lengths to protect the
environment, something which comes into conflict with the harvesting of
Australia's mineral wealth.
Southern Australia is home to extensive mineral deposits. Metals such as iron
and nickel are abundant in South Australia ore, and much of this ore is mined,
refined, and then brought to Sydney and other ports for the purpose of shipping.
The primary purchaser of Australian minerals is China, although many other Asian
nations also purchase Australian metals. The mineral economy of Australia is
dependent on foreign prices to be profitable, and as it is not sustainable the
state is looking to expand away from it, though it currently remains a powerful
economic resource.
Shipping is another major point of South Australia's economy. Australia is home
to the only major ports for thousands of miles in any direction. As such, many
ships stop in Southern Australia in order to refuel, or to use Australian
warehouses. South Australia's shipping economy is largely to perform as a way
point for ships traveling elsewhere, although it is also a starting point for
the vast mineral wealth which is shipped out of the area.

Australia's advocate decalogue
It could happen some of you will need criminal lawyers in the future. This is their decalogue.
Study. The law is constantly changing. If you do not follow in his footsteps, will be every day a little less lawyer.
Think. The right is learned studying, but thinking is exercised.
Work. Advocacy is an arduous fatigue as this in the service of justice.
Control. Your duty is to fight for the law, but the day you find the right conflict with the law, always fight for justice.
It is fair. Loyal to your client, you should not leave until you understand that it is unworthy of you. Loyal to the opponent, even though it is unfair to you. Loyal to the judge who ignores the facts and you trust what you tell, and that, on the right, occasionally, you must trust that you will invoke. " Tolerated.
Be patient. The time is come from the things you do without them.
Tolerate another's truth in the same way that you want yours to be tolerated.
Have faith. Have faith in law as the best instrument for human coexistence in justice, as the normal destiny of the right, in peace, as a substitute kind of justice, and above all, have faith in freedom, without which no no law, justice, no peace.
Forget. Advocacy is a struggle of passions. If you were in every battle fill your soul with bitterness, there will come a day when life will be impossible for you. Completed combat, forgotten as soon as you defeat your victory.
Love your profession. Try to consider the legal profession so that the day when your son asks you for advice about your destination, consider an honor for you proposed to take counsel.

Innovation:
Time for action now
By Professor Kurt Lambeck, President of the Australian Academy of Science
The announcement by Senator Kim Carr, Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, that the Australian Government will provide up to $83 million to early stage start-up companies serves to highlight that the research and development (R&D) community is keenly awaiting the Governments response to the Cutler Review of the National Innovation System and the Bradley Review of the Higher Education System.
The Ministers’ Press Club address of 18 March articulated ten ‘ambitions’ for innovation, science and research that if achieved have the potential to transform Australia’s R&D scene. But, as the Minister has remarked, ‘the global economic crisis …. has cast everything in a different light, including our agenda for innovation, science and research’. I hope this means that the need for implementation is even more urgent. At the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Innovation report, Building Australia’s Research Capacity, noted the global economic meltdown should not become a reason for inaction on the Government’s commissioned reports that have stressed the importance of developing Australia’s education, science and technology base.

Tips and tricks for organizing a prize-winning charity raffle
Raffles are one of the best – and most fun – ways to raise money for your
charity. The trick is to follow a handful of simple steps that will ensure your
raffle is not only profitable but problem-free. Before you know it, you’ll be a
pro at raising money for your favorite cause.
The first step in organizing any raffle is to secure a prize – ideally one that
is donated, to increase profits. Ask members of your group if they have
something valuable to donate. Also, spread the word about your efforts; many
people you know may be willing to donate items.
Prizes that tend to draw the most interest include cars, vacations and
electronic equipment. A word of caution, though: There may be some legal issues
surrounding the raffling off of big-ticket items such as cars, so it’s best to
seek legal advice about this. Also, be aware that raffle laws differ from state
to state so educate yourself about any restrictions that may exist in your area.
Next, determine when and for how much you will sell theraffle ticket. Of
course, prices need to be high enough to make a profit for your charity, but not
so pricey that they will negatively affect sales. Also, consider offering
discounted ticket prices for those who buy in quantity. For example, if you
charge $5 for one ticket, then charge $20 for five.
It’s now time to get your raffle tickets printed. Get creative withraffle ticket printing;
for example, consider ordering them with colors or even getting them customized
with a picture or logo. The idea is that the more attention-grabbing your raffle
tickets look, the more people will want to buy them.
Finally, it’s time to select the winners. Just remember, anyone involved in
organizing the raffle, along with their immediate family members, should be
discouraged from buying tickets. If they ended up winning a prize, it would
suggest impropriety.
Raffles can not only give a boost to your charity but engender a real sense of
teamwork among your group’s members. That’s a prize in itself.

The Spring of Wellness
Wellness is a Thought Which Manifests Physically
Abraham Maslow the renowned 20th century American psychologist once said: The
ability to be in the present moment is a major component of mental and physical
wellness. That thought has been expressed in many different ways over the years,
but most of us tend to ignore living in the present moment and choose to live in
the past or the future. Those two mental states can inhibit wellness unless we
focus on how our thoughts create what we experience physically.
Wellness is a spring that constantly flows through the channels of our minds,
but we tend to block the spring, change channels, and think about illness,
injury, accidents, and destruction. Those thoughts block the spring of wellness
from manifesting physically. We create beliefs from those thoughts and then
experience those beliefs. When we open our channels of thought in the present
moment and allow the spring of wellness to flow through our minds our
experiences change and so does our reality.
The Spring of Wellness is Eternal
Wellness exists in the present moment unless we choose to create something other
than wellness. Life is only the present moment; the past is just a memory, and
the future is an expectation. The present moment is where the spirit meets the
flesh, and where the spring of wellness exists eternally.
That can be a hard concept to understand unless we expand our beliefs about how
we create wellness. Quantum physics tells us that we create all of our
experiences using our mind, as well as the universal mind. Within the mind is
the eternal spring of wellness that has no beginning or end, it just eternally
flows through all consciousness and it can be experienced in every physical
moment when we allow it to manifest.

10 Common Injuries Suffered on Construction Worksites
The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration
(OSHA) guarantees a safe workplace, especially for high-risk occupations, like
construction. No matter how many regulations and inspections there may be, a
workplace is only as safe as the construction workers and their employers.
Carelessness, substance abuse or horsing around can lead to injury, as can poor
site management. A safe site is everybody’s responsibility.
Of the numerous construction industry related injuries, here are ten of the most
common and how to avoid them.
1. Slipping and falling on ground level, such as in an oil spill. This happens
every day on job sites and in grocery stores. Keep the site clear of debris and
spills.
2. Falling from elevation, such as from defective scaffolding. Examine
scaffolding before use. Use tie-offs when working on a roof.
3. Being struck by heavy machinery, such as being hit by a forklift. The load
should not obstruct vision. It should be well-balanced.
4. Being struck by a falling object, such as a board from the second floor. Wear
safety helmets at all times on the job site.
5. Being caught inside a large piece of machinery, such as a blender for
pesticides. Follow a buddy system. Make sure all power is disconnected to the
unit before climbing into it.
6. Falling down an elevator shaft. Keep elevator shafts closed, well-marked and
well-lighted. Watch your step.
7. Back injury from lifting. Lift with the legs, not the back.
8. Electrocution. Be sure all power is turned off before working on wiring.
9. Gas explosion. Work in well-ventilated areas.
10. Defective tools. Examine your tools and keep them in good repair. Carefully
look over any rental equipment.
